Dr. Sharon Mitchell has over a decade of experience as a health care industry pioneer. Dr. Mitchell founded the AIM (Adult Industry Medical) Healthcare Foundation, which decreased the rate of
STD infection among members of the Adult Industry to 80% below the rate of STD infection in the overall population of the United States. Mitchell is best known as the person responsible for ending an HIV outbreak in 2004. Mitchell has been recognized by many organizations, including OSHA, and the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention), for effectively identifying and testing all parties at risk, and setting a new standard for health care procedures within and beyond the Adult Entertainment industry. She is a PhD, MPH, CDS, and Board Certified Clinical Sexologist. Sharon Mitchell is also one of the most recognized adult entertainers. She won a lifetime achievement award at the Cannes film festival for her work as an actress, producer and director, before leaving the adult industry to study infectious disease.
Dr. Mitchell is a sought after expert and lecturer who has appeared on many television and radio shows including The New York Times, The Washington Post, CNN, Newsweek, USA Today, 20/20, and NPR. Her research has been published by many sources, including Lancet, the International Journal of Sexual Research and the CDC's MMWR. Dr. Mitchell will be featured as a therapist on the upcoming "Celebrity Rehab" series with Dr. Drew Pinsky which will air on VH1, and regularly writes Protocols for MTV and VH1 reality shows like "Date a Rock Star", to keep the talent safe while living in the same location for weeks at a time. She also writes a regular column "Ask Dr. Mitch" which can be found in AVN, Stilletto, and Frontier magazine as well as on the AIM and SxCheck.com sites.
Co-Founder Doug Wightman, a computer science entrepreneur and Stanford graduate, recognized that the ability to share STD test results in more secure and accessible manners, including by email and text message, would increase proactive sexual health behaviors.
